Detroit’s Very First Women of Gospel Tell Their whole story in Lifetime Biopic

Helmed by way of a homegrown, African-American manager, “The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel” informs the storyline for the Grammy Award-winning, highest-selling feminine gospel band of all-time.

The highest-selling female gospel band of all-time, Detroit’s own Clark Sisters aided modernize the genre.

Now the tale of siblings is reaching a nationwide market with the April 11th premiere of these biopic, ”The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel,” on Lifetime.

Today the group helped modernize gospel in a way that still influences pop music. Pay attention to a track by the Clark Sisters that has been sampled on Jay-Z’s “Family Feud” featuring Beyonce, below.

Their synchronized melodies and intricate blends that are vocal like one sound but were really five: Twinkie, Karen, Dorinda, Denise and Jacky. Their biggest hit had been the reggae-infused “You Brought the Sunshine,” a non-traditional gospel song that sampled Stevie Wonder’s “Master Blaster.”
